Overview

An operations/departmental manager is generally someone who can manage teams and/or projects, and has responsibility for planning, delivering and achieving departmental goals and objectives. They are accountable to a more senior manager, head of department or small business owner, and are responsible for the operational and/or policy delivery of the organisation’s strategy.

Duration: 14 – 18 months

Total Qualification Time: 370 hours

What’s Involved?

On-programme assessment of knowledge, skills and behaviour outcomes whilst producing a portfolio of evidence meeting the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Management. The Diploma is made up of 11 units (56 credits) and has been mapped to the required skills and knowledge themes of the new Standard.

Completion of English and Maths Level 2 qualifications (if not already achieved)

Knowledge & Skills gap analysis followed up with development workshops, work books and learning activities, mock tests and practice interviews.

Undertaking a work based project (content to be agreed with the assessor) taking approximately 6 months of the programme

A 2 year membership to the Institute of Leadership and Management – Regular fortnightly updates for the sector, access to the e-learning zone containing interactive workbooks, videos, PDF’s and action cards that all count towards your continuous professional development log and access to wider networks

End Point Assessment

Following the successful completion of the Diploma and Functional Skills, the end point assessment is carried out involving a range of assessment tools:

Knowledge tests using scenarios and questions (Multiple choice examination)

Competence based interview carried out by an independent assessor (could be face to face, telephone, live media, online or written)

Assessment of portfolio of evidence produced from the Diploma

Assessment of a work based project and a 15-minute presentation of the project followed by question and answer session lasting 15 minutes to a panel

Professional discussion relating to the CPD activity – CPD log should contain learning activities undertaken, assignments and projects during the Diploma
