Founded in 1995 GB Training is a family run, leading training provider based in central Birmingham. GB Training believes in learner achievement and will provide the very highest quality vocational skills and qualifications.

GB Training is here to inspire individuals to become their greatest and make a difference in learner education.
Our family foundations and values have been nurtured throughout the growth of the company, we lead from the top with honesty, integrity and transparency.
We believe that inspirational teaching is about more than a qualification, but is about guiding people to strive for progression, improving knowledge and skills, and helping them to improve their social skills and financial position.

The Board & Shareholders


Gill Barton is the founder of GB Training which she launched in 1995 as a sole trader. Gill has a phenomenal career covering numerous sectors working in administration, hospitality, leadership and management and latterly in learning and development for Bass Leisure, prior to starting her company. Gill is qualified in numerous disciplines including Human Resources and education and training. Gill is currently enjoying semi-retirement however continues to chair the Board of Directors and shareholders.


Lawrence Barton is the Managing Director of GB Training UK Ltd. Lawrence has 19 years’ service with the company and was first appointed a Director in 2001. He has successfully managed numerous Ofsted inspections & Provider Finance and Governance audits. He speaks publicly at large Skills and government events. He has been Festival Director of Birmingham Pride since 2009 and was appointed board member of Birmingham Southside BID since 2011 to the current date.


Darren Barton is one of the shareholders of GB Training, Darren’s project work has taken him away operationally from GB Training, his work complements our group strategy to improve our asset position for the future


Following a career in various roles with Dixons Stores Group, Stuart joined GB Training in 2002. Over this time Stuart has had a number of roles within the organisation and now focuses on development of our rapidly growing IT Academy, currently within the Apprenticeships arena, with a view to expanding this to other delivery models in the near future.


Following a successful management career in retail Allan joined the college based FE sector in 1983 and has managed a wide range of Apprenticeships and other programmes until joining GB Training in 2010. Allan has a wide and extensive experience of managing funded training programmes and is a valuable source of knowledge.
