Andrew’s Story | #NationalEmployabilityDay Andrew Boyd recently attended an Employability Course with Health and Social Care specialist units. Andrew was a very able learner however he lacked confidence and self-belief, doubting what he could achieve and was very nervous when carrying out presentation activities and speaking to the class. Early in the course Andrew thrived on having a routine attending the course each day and asked for additional learning activities to extend his understanding during the weekends as he was so keen to carry on developing his knowledge when not attending GB Training. Andrew was able to reflect on his own personal experiences where he has provided care for a close family member and he was able to use the knowledge he had, to discuss how carers need to work in a respectful and person-centred way. With time Andrew grew in confidence, self-belief and self-assurance and was able to identify how his qualities and skillset would be valued within a care role. After applying for a role within a rehabilitation centre, Andrew has secured employment within the Health and Social Care sector and recently communicated with his tutor saying “just wanted to say the motivation you’ve given me to get into the care environment is amazing, I didn’t think I had it in me, just a big massive thank you”.
